This interactive training will focus on sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) services during the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 pathophysiology and transmission is still not fully understood. The concern for forensic nurses, advocates, and prosecutors are that COVID-19 creates more obstacles for patients seeking medical care and justice against their perpetrators. Forensic nursing care needs to be provided quickly and in-person to be most effective. During this pandemic, health care organizations limited the availability of sexual assault forensic examinations. Lessons learned will be discussed and recommendations for improvements will be provided to better prepare sexual assault nurse examiners for public health emergencies.
Participants will earn up to 3.0 contact hours of nursing continuing professional development credit based on attendance.
